However, on the way to the ship, they learned that an envoy from Kaz’s clan, traveling to a ceremonial marriage uniting his clan with another, had been ambushed by goblin pirates on the Shining Sea. The bride, Lady Granelda—Kaz's cousin—was kidnapped, and the goblins stole the ceremonial dowry: a priceless weapon known as the Stormhammer . The goblins demanded an exorbitant ransom in gold and gems, threatening to kill Lady Granelda and melt the heirloom hammer if their demands weren’t met.
